It’s pretty ridiculous that self-proclaimed audiophiles embrace a format with limited dynamic range, bass mixed to mono, and wow and flutter issues, and have completely ignored the SACD format.

“Audiophiles” probably have little to do with this resurgence. Vinyl has a heft and tangibility that CDs and MP3s lack. People want artifacts.

What music is available on SACD? What music will EVER be available on SACD, other than the blandest, mass-selling titles? There are literally SO MANY obscure records that will NEVER be available on SACD. And then there’s the cost of buying a new SACD player every couple of years. Waste of money and energy. Non of these problems exist with vinyl – all the titles are out there and the technology has already been perfected – we all know what the pros/cons are and how to remedy any faults. It’s future proof.

Re: dynamic range, I’m listening to my humble pro-ject xpression right now and there is plenty of dynamic range there. I don’t really understand how much more you want. This is a completely unimportant requirement. Vinyl delivers musical pleasure – that’s all any of us need to know.

    It’s all nostalgia

It ain’t just nostalgia. Many used records can be bought for $3 or less. It’s a great way to try out music you’ve never heard before. Also, lots of albums were never put on CD. Rare stuff, imports. The covers were done in the age of great album art. And records stores are great places to hang out. They’re like book stores for the ears.
