When they thought home taping would kill the music industry

The above image is from a record sleeve found by a reddit user. Back in the 1980s this was a fairly common thing to see. “Home Taping Is Killing Music” was a campaign started by the British Phonographic Industry because they feared people taping songs off of the radio would ruin the music industry forever. It has been parodied many times since then. The Dead Kennedys even left one side of their 1981 tape In God We Trust Inc. blank with the message “Home taping is killing record industry profits! We left this side blank so you can help.” The BPI couldn’t stop home taping, and home taping wasn’t about to stop music.
