29 Years Ago Today: Marvin Gaye Sings The National Anthem At The NBA All-Star Game

On February 13th, 1983 Marvin Gaye sang the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star game in Los Angeles. ¬†Aside from Whitney Houston’s Superbowl performance, Gaye’s rendition is one of the most legendary performances of The Star Spangled Banner in sports history. The performance unconventionally made use of a drum machine, and Marvin made it work like no one else could have. In 2004 his daughter Nona paid tribute to her late father when she performed at the All-Star game as well.
