You can now have your ashes pressed into a vinyl record

vinylashesWho needs an urn over the mantle when you can now store your ashes in a vinyl record? Vinyly found Jason Leach will combine your remains with 24 minute of audio of your choice. From Bloomberg Businessweek:

The process itself is fairly simple: Ashes are delivered to a pressing plant in London and sprinkled into the raw vinyl. But the cost can be exorbitant. The basic And Vinyly package starts at £3,000 ($4,600) for 30 copies of a record, each containing a bit of ash.

One recent customer was a musician named Francesca Grilli from Amsterdam. Via The Daily Dot:

“She had a classical score written and played by string instruments,” Leach said. “This was filmed. The instruments and score were burning during the performance. We pressed the ashes from the performance into clear vinyl cut with the audio recording from the performance.”

What audio recording would you pair your ashes with?

  • Mady Mandel Haralick Tiktin

  • Shirley Peter

” The Carnival is Over” by Dead Can Dance. What would be more appropriate?

    • Coma Girl

A Ghost Is Born by Wilco

  • Michael Lancaster

“Catch the Wind” by Donovan, “How Deep is Your Love?” by the Bee Gees or maybe “Absolute Beginners” by David Bowie 😀

  • Chris Tyle

Obviously one of my own recordings.

  • TubaThor90

Either a recording of one of my solo performances, or a recording of me playing Holst’s The Planets with a major symphony, preferably Chicago or New York.

  • Lorelei Lee87

Dead Man’s Party by Oingo Boingo

  • Vivid13

    Guns N’ Roses “November Rain”

  • Harry Palma

Die Die My Darling! The Misfits

    Sleep – Dopesmoker

    • Duhpocalypse

You’re obviously no dummy since you’re familiar with Sleep. But the record can only be 24 minutes long. and the only thing worse than not getting paralyzingly stoned while listening to Dopesmoker, is not listing to Dopesmoker in its entirety.

  • odone20

    Yakety Sax.

    • Chirpy

Oh wow. You would have to play it in fast motion with naked chicks, though. 78 rpm?

    • cazart

      /Slowclap. (Except sped-up and with scantily-clad nurses.) F’ing brilliant.

  • Colin Bennun

You Spin Me Round (Like A Record) by Dead or Alive. Obviously.

    • georgewaring

I thought that was by “The Smiths”

      • jdm79

        You thought wrong.

        • georgewaring

Indeed I did, actually having a life gets in the way for some of us.

Well not everybody in the world saw that newspaper… on the web they can. Durp.

Anyways, that is too awesome. I know lot’s of producers and dj buddies that will get a kick outta this.

  • Peggy Redell

    Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd

  • Pyro

    24 minutes of white noise.

  • Ken Frazier

The 24 minute limit is because they are only pressing one side of the album with music. For that price you should really be getting both sides pressed with music. How much extra does that cost ??

  • Abby Hoffman

    Ring of Fire, Johnny Cash.
Disco Inferno (Burn Baby, Burn) by The Trammps

  • squidterm

Planet Vega by AIR I always wanted that as my funeral march. But yeah my music too.
