Can you imagine gearing up for a road trip and bringing a stack of vinyl records to play on the road? Back in the 1950’s and 60’s that was a reality for lucky owners (like George Harrison pictured above) of the car vinyl record player. The most popular model was made by Columbia Records and called the ‘Highway Hi-fi.’ I have to imagine the record skipped quite a bit while driving down a bumpy road, but back then it was the only option for portable music.
