Who is the woman in David Bowie’s new music video?

Screen shot 2013-01-10 at 6.56.36 PMThere’s been a lot of questions since David Bowie released his new song/music video. One of the major questions is the identity of the woman in the video. Bowie’s official facebook page answered some questions:

WHERE ARE WE NOW? SOME FILM FACTS

“Coco’s dog’s a poacher and she hides behind trees…”

Director Tony Oursler’s enigmatic promotional film for David Bowie’s ‘Where Are We Now?’ has got folk wondering exactly what it all means.

Well, in the same way that we here at DBFBHQ can’t answer what David Lynch’s ‘Eraserhead’ is all about, we are nevertheless happy to enjoy the bizarre visual feast that the ‘Where Are We Now?’ promo presents.

Of course, it’s not the first time Oursler has supplied a little weirdness to a Bowie video…one of our very favourites is ‘Little Wonder’ where his trademark projections lend a surreal air to proceedings.

Anyway, even though we cant explain everything you see in the ‘Where Are We Now?’ promo, we do have some facts for you that you may not have worked out otherwise.

~ The most common misconception, or widely held theory, is that the woman accompanying David is the wonderfully nutty Icelandic singer, Björk! It’s not, it is in fact Oursler’s wife, painter Jacqueline Humphries.

~ The room in the film which is jam packed with all kinds of weird and wonderful objects is actually the interior of Ousler’s downtown New York studio.

~ The dog seen wondering into view in the studio is Muffin, who belongs to Coco, David’s assistant and long time friend.

~ Muffin is also sister to Max, Lexi Jones’s dog.

~ The video was shot over two mornings.

Well, it’s a start!
